Cand ajungeti in Vancouver si vreti sa beti un vin sau un scotch bune, sa mergeti neaparat in Port. E acolo un restaurant destul de modest, daca ar fi sa-l comparam cu standardele bucurestene, dar care are mancare “bunicica”, daca ar fi sa-l parafrazez pe prietenul meu Mike (fost brasovean), care mananca acolo cu prietenii si cu partenerii lui de afaceri. Clienti sunt destui: marinari din toate colturile pamantului, turisti, studenti, functionari de la numeroasele companii din apropiere etc.
Au mult peste si fructe de mare, evident, iar cel mai scump fel de mancare e 39$ – nu conteaza ca sunt dolari Canadieni, pentru ca acum e fix acelasi lucru ($1Can = $1,003US). Daca mai pui inca pe atat, poti lua si o sticla de vin bun, frantuzesc, spaniol sau chiar canadian. Insa ce vezi mai rar in alte restaurante, e ca printre marinari si studenti saraci sunt si niste oameni cu portia de peste de 20$ in farfurie care beau niste vinuri pe care platesc 1,000$ paharul (o mie, ca sa nu aveti dubii!). Sigur, vinul si celelalte bauturi se pot cumpara si la sticla: 8,000$ un vin frantuzesc ca acela din poza sau 33,500$ o sticla de scotch The Balvenie Fifty din 1962…
